3-day trip as we peak hop from Mt. Democrat to Mt. Cameron to Mt. Lincoln to Mt. Bross.

Ready to test your level of adventure? Then join us as we scale four 14ers in one day! We will kick-start the expedition with Mt. Democrat and end at Mt. Bross. A perfect way to spend your Labor Day weekend as you enjoy the breath-taking views and socialize with other outdoor enthusiasts.

ITINERARY

Overview:

Day 1 – Friday Aug 5th
05:30 AM Hikers leave from Des Moines, IA for Fairplay, CO. Stop for lunch on the road
02:00 PM Denver International Airport pickup
5-6 PM Arrive at campsite. Enjoy a delicious dinner. Socialize and relax
Day 2 – Saturday Aug 6th
03:00 AM Wake-up, enjoy a hearty breakfast
03:45 AM Drive to Kite Lake Trailhead
04:00 AM Start hiking the Kite Lake trailhead to the summit of Mt. Democrat (~ 2 miles)
06:00 AM* Arrive at Mt. Democrat summit (14,148 ft). Enjoy the beautiful views
06:30 AM* Start hiking the Democrat-Calibron saddle to Mt. Calibron
08:00 AM* Arrive at Mt. Cameron summit (14,238 ft). Take pictures and enjoy the views
08:30 AM* Hike the Calibron-Lincoln saddle
10:00 AM* Arrive at Mt. Lincoln summit (14,286 ft.). Enjoy a packed lunch as we take in the gorgeous views
10:30 AM* Hike the Lincoln-Bross saddle
Noon* Arrive at Mt. Bross. Enjoy the views.
12:30 PM* Start out descent back to Kite Lake trailhead
4:00 PM* Arrive at the campsite. Relax, socialize and enjoy a hearty meal.
Day 3 – Sunday Aug 7th
06:00 AM Wake-up, enjoy a healthy breakfast. Pack up campsite.
08:00 AM Depart for horseback/ATV riding
09:00 PM Go on tour
11:00 AM Enjoy lunch at the ranch
Noon Hikers depart for respective destinations

Saturday – Hike Mt. Democrat (14,148 ft.), Mt. Cameron (14,238 ft.), Mt. Lincoln (14,286 ft.) and Mt. Bross (14,172 ft.)

Highest Elevation: 14,286 ft.

Distance: ~7.25 miles round-trip

Route: Decalibron Loop

Difficulty: Moderate

2-night camping

We will be camping at the campgrounds near Kite Lake.

Tents will be provided however each hiker will be required to bring their own sleeping bag and sleeping pad/foam.

Cost: $320** (from Des Moines, IA) / $250 (meet us at the campsite/Denver International Airport)

Qualifications:

The hikes are rated moderate with the highest elevation point approximately 14,286 ft. Hikers are required to be in good physical condition. If you have any condition that we need to know about, please email us at hikes@peak4poverty.org.

Weather:

The weather is expected to be in the mid-70s during the day and can drop to the low 40s during the night. Weather on the mountain is much cooler than at the campsite.

Altitude:

Due to the high altitude, hikers may experience various symptoms as their bodies adjust to the high altitude. The most common symptom is headaches. To help your body acclimate to the high altitude, we recommend taking Diamox (Acetazolamide). This is a prescribed medication. Talk to your health care provider to ensure that the drug is safe for you.
